Unit Introduction
Rheumatology is a branch of medicine concerned with the diagnosis, treatment, and monitoring of rheumatic diseases affecting the joints, muscles, bones, and connective tissue. These diseases can affect not only the musculoskeletal system but also internal organs such as the skin, eyes, lungs, kidneys, and heart. Therefore, early diagnosis and regular follow-up of rheumatic diseases are crucial.
Our hospital’s Rheumatology Unit diagnoses and treats a wide range of rheumatic diseases, including:
- Rheumatoid Arthritis
- Ankylosing Spondylitis
- Psoriatic Arthritis
- Systemic Lupus Erythematosus
- Sjögren Syndrome
- Familial Mediterranean Fever
- Vasculitis
- Gout
- Behçet’s Disease
- Joint Ultrasound
A rheumatologist thoroughly evaluates our patients to determine the type, stage, and organs affected by the disease. Blood tests, urine tests, and imaging studies are used in the diagnosis process. A personalized rheumatic disease treatment plan is then developed. This plan may include medication, physical therapy, exercise programs, and lifestyle changes.
Rheumatic diseases are often chronic and require regular follow-up. Our unit closely monitors our patients’ treatment processes, and check-ups are conducted to prevent disease progression and joint damage. When necessary, we collaborate with physical therapy, orthopedics, nephrology, dermatology, internal medicine, dietitian, and psychology departments.
As the Rheumatology Unit, our goal is to help our patients reduce pain, maintain mobility, and improve their quality of life. We understand that rheumatic diseases can have not only physical but also emotional impacts, and we offer our patients holistic support during this process.
It’s important for individuals experiencing symptoms such as joint pain, morning stiffness, fatigue, muscle aches, persistent back or waist pain, or skin rashes or swelling to consult a rheumatologist. Early diagnosis can slow the progression of the disease and prevent permanent joint damage.
